THE ORIGINAL DIXIELAND JAZZ BAND

Nick La Rocca (cornet)
Larry Shields (clarinet)
Eddie "Daddy" Edwards (trombone)
Henry Ragas (piano)
Tony Sbarbaro (drums)

Coming from New Orleans by way of Chicago, the O.D.J.B. opened in 1917 at Reisenweber's Cafe, near Columbus Circle in Manhattan, where it was billed as the Original Dixieland "Jass" Band.

With its Victor recordings, made in February 1917, it became the first band to play Jazz on disk.

They popularized tunes learned and played when its members were part of "Papa" Laurie's Reliance Brass Band and other New Orleans marching bands.
