SUNDAY, JANUARY 13, 2008 Arrived at the Willard InterContinental Hotel today. Home of the historic Round Robin Bar, where Henry Clay introduced George Washington to the mint julep. We're in town to research a music project, see some sites and have a good time. A mint julep is traditionally made of four ingredients: mint, bourbon, sugar and water. I passed on the mint julep and ordered a Vesper Martini per “Bond, James Bond” Plymouth Gin shaken not stirred, garnished with olives.
The Willard is just two blocks from the White House and Presidents Taylor, Fillmore, Pierce, Buchanan, Lincoln, Grant, Taft, Wilson, Coolidge and Harding have stayed here. Bonnie, a congressional aid I met at the bar said that other notable guests have included Charles Dickens, Buffalo Bill, David Lloyd George, P.T. Barnum, Lord and Lady Napper and countless others.
Looks like we'll be moving the party to the Birchmere Music Hall to see Isaac Hayes on thursday, 1/17, and Eddie From Ohio on Friday, 1/18, 2008.See you there
