ELVIS Born Elvis Aaron Presley in Tupelo, Mississippi, January 8, 1935, his family moved to Memphis, Tennessee in 1948. He began his singing career at Sun Records in 1954. RCA purchased his contract from Sun in 1955 for $35,000 plus $5,000 in back royalties for Elvis.
